Welcome back to The Empowered Planning Podcast. As we celebrate Women's History Month, I want to dive deeper into the world of women and money, and not just how we spend our money or how we invest our money, but also looking into the financial industry itself. I have a long time friend of mine, Ashley Sullivan on the show today. She's been advising clients since 2007 and spent about 13 years between Fidelity and Schwab as a financial advisor. One interesting thing that came up when Ashley and I were talking before we recorded the podcast was about her experience as a part of women’s collective for an organization that she worked for in San Diego and how she was trying to get more women a seat at the table so they could have these open conversations and dialogue about money . And at the time, the questions were often directed at how they were able to have a thriving career in finance as a working mom. What...

I’m so excited to have a long time client and friend on the podcast today, Betsy Smith. Betsy is a multi-passionate entrepreneur who owns her own hair salon and handcrafted souvenir shop. The best part? She didn’t take action on these businesses until she was 29 years old which shows it’s never too late to pivot. Throughout our conversation, you’ll hear a bit about Betsy’s Amish upbringing and how this informed the way she feels about money and financial decisions as a whole. Betsy has done so much work in not only creating a business (and life!) that she’s proud of, but healing and overcoming negative money narratives. I hope this conversation leaves you feeling inspired.

I’m excited to share our first guest episode of 2024 with Nikki Nie, a 500 hour ERYT Tantric Hatha Yoga and Meditation teacher and client of mine! I’ve seen Nikki make the transition into entrepreneurship with so much success (and financial stability!) and wanted her to share her story today on the podcast because she shows what’s possible for you if you’re thinking of making the leap from contractor to business owner. Chasing her passions is what’s most important to Nikki, but she wanted to make sure she was protected financially. Throughout our work together she has drastically reduced her debt, has leveraged multiple income streams, and has increased her confidence with money. Nikki blows me away and I’m so excited for you to learn from her during this conversation!

Happy, happy new year. It was a nice break that we took, but I am so excited to get back to the podcast! I'm having a ton of fun doing these episodes and getting input from you all. This year, we'll be adding some special guests on the show I'm really excited about. But as we step into this new fresh chapter, the new year is always full of possibilities, opportunities, and a chance for us to embrace new beginnings with a lot of optimism and hope which I love. Whether you're setting ambitious goals, seeking personal growth, or just looking to find joy in everyday moments, the new year really brings us this blank canvas for everything that we're looking forward to. So I want to embark on this journey together and carry forward from lessons that we learned last year in 2023 and all the resilience that we gained from the past year. So cheers to a year filled with lots of love, lots of happiness and financial...

This is episode eight and it's going to be the last episode until 2024 but I will see you back here in January. We're going to take a break through the holiday season to finish up some year-end deadlines and to be more present on the home front. I think that gets lost sometimes this season, especially if you're a mom taking care of making it a magical, magical time for everybody. But in today's episode I want to dive deeper into how your self-worth is not or should not be dictated by your net worth. I think this is a timely topic because about 70% of the US GDP comes from consumer spending, which really flares up around the holidays – there’s shopping opportunities all around us and it's hard not to think about money. So let’s talk about what this all means today on The Empowered Planning Podcast!

Are you feeling the pressure of the holiday season? Maybe you’re feeling so stressed out that you non longer feel the joy that can be so abundant at the end of the year. I’m so excited to have our first guest on the episode today, my dear friend Jean is joining me to talk about how she has learned to shift out guilt for joy in her life (because there is so much of it to be had). She shares the practices that have helped her overcome the common challenges that we all face in raising children while being career driven women. I hope our conversation today can help you come back home to not only the meaning of this season, but why you do what you do each day!

We are gearing up for the holiday season, my favorite time of year! If you have been out of your house and have gone to literally any store, they already have their big holiday decorations out and this is such a fun time of year. So I want to help as much as I can on the financial side of things because it's really up to us to balance out what's going to work. In this episode I’m sharing a few tips to feel financially stable during the holiday season, from apps you can use to focusing on sustainability. I hope this helps you remain excited about the weeks to come!

We have about two months left in the year, which is crazy to say, but as we're gearing towards the end of 2023, I'm starting to get a lot of questions around taxes if you have a side hustle, if you're part of the gig economy, if you started freelancing, or if this is your first year as an entrepreneur. Last week on the podcast, we talked about how to unpack all of the money baggage that we essentially got through our childhood and growing up, so if you haven’t listened to that episode, go do that now! This week I want to take things a step further and talk about the six most common money blind spots, as I call them, that tend to show up in our lives. Money blind spots are beliefs or thoughts that obstruct the way that we view money in our lives. In this episode, I want to try to normalize this for you because we have all of these voices in our head that we interact with throughout the day that can prevent us from moving forward in our lives if we don't really address them. My hope is that you’ll listen to this episode and leave with actionable steps you can take to heal your money blind spots to become more confident in your financial decision making!
